Pour le père Arnaud Favart, ancien vicaire général de la Mission de France, il n’est guère étonnant que les prêtres soient également touchés par la crise du sens que rencontrent beaucoup de professionnels, dans un contexte de « sécularisation décapante ». Selon lui, il faudrait pouvoir proposer aux prêtres des options plus diverses que le service d’une paroisse.
La tentation de partir guette un certain nombre de professionnels exposés à des contraintes éprouvantes ou à une dévalorisation blessante. Pourquoi assiste-t-on à une hémorragie dans des métiers jusque-là réputés enviables et riches de sens ? Citons quelques exemples. La tarification à l’acte dans les hôpitaux a imposé aux soignants une forme de performance et de taylorisme aux dépens de la relation avec le patient. Le paysan est devenu producteur pour nourrir une population urbaine nombreuse, quitte à maltraiter durablement la terre et la biodiversité. Pour des impératifs sanitaires et de rentabilité, la restauration collective a privilégié les surgelés aux produits frais, aux dépens du goût. Résultat, le cuisinier s’est mué en réchauffeur de plat avec un taux de gaspillage garanti !
La mondialisation nous a plongés dans un ensemble de transitions, pas seulement climatiques. La perte de sens, le plus souvent invoquée, est rude. On ne voit pas pourquoi les prêtres échapperaient à l’interrogation commune du sens et de la reconnaissance, à laquelle s’ajoutent les effets d’une sécularisation décapante. Encore que, me direz-vous, exercer le sacerdoce n’est pas tout à fait un métier. Par le dévouement que cela suppose, soigner à l’hôpital ou en Ehpad, élever des vaches laitières ou donner à manger ne sont-ils pas une forme de sacerdoce ?
